Elections over. Same Gahmen.

What a sad election. For the hundred thousand that turned up at the WP rallies, you might think this election would be different. Unfortunately everything's the same, and that includes the biasness of the press. As many might have known, the Hougang rally pictures that have been circulating the internet have never made it into any newspaper. It is to this detriment that the general public do not have any idea that there ARE supporters for the opposition and that the ST is just a bloody unreliable piece of pangsai. I don't need to mention how they bend over backwards for the gahment and the PAP. I think we can safely see from the results that most of the general public are still clueless about the scale of opposition support in other constiutencies and perhaps they should seek to other avenues to gather more information to better aid their voting decision. But that's a matter for the next election.

I was particularly pissed that the election committee at Bedok Green were so inflexible regarding the voting process. On my way to the voting centre, I passed by some elderly folks walking and they seemed very much in pain (or maybe they're just old). After I was done voting and I stepped out of the school, I met the same old folks just reaching. Despite the distance being like less than 100m. There were so many elderly voters yet they refused to open a sidegate so that the old folks don't have to walk AROUND the school to get to the main entrance. Talk about caring for the people. Fookers. This reminds me of the PAP van that goes around spouting a recorded 'Vote for us.. etc'. Don't you think it's a stark contrast to the WP people going around waving and smiling in their van? The sincerity for one is a very good reason to vote opposition. The incumbents think too highly for themselves. They think the people want stability and that is something the opposition cannot offer them. So they ya ya just play recorded message and take the people for granted. Nabei.

And you know what? The majority are still stupid. As we can see from the votes. They think the incumbents = stability. But they don't realise that the only reason why there might be no stability if the oppositions are voted in is because of the incumbent's refusal to co-operate and generally making life difficult for them and their wards. So it all boils down to the incumbents again. They are therefore actually voting the incumbents so that their constituency will not have any government trouble. Sounds like secret society and protection rackets right? Hahaha...

Oh well. I guess Singaporeans may need another 5 years to wake up. Perhaps they'll realise their mistake soon when the prices of everything go up within the next 5 months. By then, they might do peaceful protests ala Thaksin to make young master Lee step down. But that's just a silly dream. Not my dream of course. Wayne's. My dream is just to grow old with xy. Hurhurhur.

Suicide in Johor Bahru

Yesterday we had a relatively fun but tiring day in JB. Travelling in by bus and walking to City Square on foot, we took in the fumes of the city as our tummies growled. I was late by 20 mins la. My fault. Lucky you all forgot to mention I was supposed to treat lunch later. Hurhurhur.

50% off Secret Recipes was good. Cake was good. But what really took the cake was when Lerk&Siwei&April&Angelene saw a dead man at Holiday Plaza after lunch. Engaging in friendly banter with a local pirated DVD seller, I managed to get the information that the guy had committed suicide via jumping off the 5 storey building. As eyewitnesses described, he was lying face down with alot of blood pooling near his mouth. Around him were a crowd of onlookers and the two policemen whom arrived on the scene chose to sit in the comfort of their car and not attend to the crowd. Heh. Maybe they figured since the guy was dead no need to treat as emergency already. This was evident by the fact that they were still there hours later but with a makeshift tarp covering the body and an umbrella on his head.

To make up for their inefficiency, the police decide to take a stroll around holiday plaza. So they walk walk walk walk walk and wherever they walked, the DVD shops close. Then we kenna stuck inside for like 1/2 hr watching some silly Stephen Chow movie... Oh yes. Dinner was fantastic as usual. Around sgd $10 per person. Eat like kings (and queens)... Afterwhich Melanie upped the ante by bringing back 7 pirated discs through customs. Usually I only dare to bring 6. Budden sad for her. Her discs cannot work. Hurhurhur...

Alrighty. Time to go repair my printer. It's got slime inside. Eech.

Straits Times Online should just ESAD

Every frickin picture on their homepage (under headline news) is of a PAP member meeting some children or attending some event. Bloody bias.

Then you read their only articles on the opposition:

-----

Some say Mr Goh's presence here shows that the PAP doesn't have confidence in Eric. But I think it gives Eric more confidence, it shows that the PAP really wants him to win. I think some people will vote for Eric to give Mr Goh mian zi (face).'

Although few would dismiss altogether the impact of Mr Goh's substantial reputation on voters, Mr Eric Low still has to overcome a couple of major obstacles.

One is his role as adviser to the ward's PAP grassroots organisations. It is a double-edged sword as many residents view him as their 'second MP' - another official whom they can turn to with their municipal problems, another source of administrative and financial aid.

This privilege of enjoying PAP-funded services, on top of those provided by incumbent Low Thia Khiang, is not lost on the Workers' Party (WP) chief. He has gleefully exploited it on several occasions.

Most recently, it was the free breakfast Mr Eric Low gave weekly to elderly residents in Hougang. Said Mr Low Thia Khiang: 'Where else do you get free breakfasts, one-dollar shark's fin soup and abalone porridge, other than in the opposition wards?'

-----

It's absolutely disgusting how they can describe Mr Low as 'gleefully exploiting' something. Why don't they use such a phrase on the PAP guy Eric? They could use it such in "Eric Low gleefully exploited the visits by Mr Goh which were aimed to raise voters for the PAP in the Hougang constituency." Why don't they use it? Because it makes the guy being described look bad! Like some theiving scheming scum of the earth. Another hit for the Straits Times.

-----

Strongest weapon in PAP's arsenal

ANOTHER obstacle the PAP candidate has had to contend with is the worry among some lower-income people that they are going to lose their homes.

A recent visit to Blocks 3 and 4 in Hougang Avenue 3 left the 57-year-old feeling 'discouraged'.

'Residents asked me if it was true that these two blocks of rental flats will be torn down if I was elected. I don't know who spread these rumours,' he told The Straits Times.

He has repeatedly assured them that there are no plans to tear down the blocks. 'I told them, if these flats are torn down, where are the 1,000 people going to stay? At my house?'

However, he was 'encouraged' by the warmer reception that greeted him during his campaigning at the private housing enclave of Realty Park, compared to 2001.

In the end, the strongest weapon in his arsenal against Mr Low Thia Khiang in this election is the multi-million-dollar upgrading plan.

When he shaved the WP man's vote share from 58 per cent in the 1997 General Election to 55 per cent at the last polls, the incumbent attributed his reduced popularity to the upgrading carrot.

Then-prime minister Goh Chok Tong had offered to upgrade the estate if the WP chief's share of votes was reduced to 52 per cent.

Now, the PAP has raised the ante, with details on how Hougang will become an Eric Low showpiece.

-----

What's wrong with this? The paper is blatently endorsing the use of taxpayer's money for party uses. By not commenting on whether it is right or wrong (other than a statement by a resident above - not quoted) they mislead the public into thinking that ONLY THE PAP HAS THE FUNDS to upgrade. When actually the PAP is using taxpayer's money (that's yours and mine!) to pay for the upgrading and STILL charging the people money. On top of that, since when is it fair that the opposition has to draw on their own funds and the government incumbents can just use tax money? Why don't they be fair and allocate each town council the same amount of money maybe based on size? The paper instead of addressing such issues endorse it (maybe not intentionally) by printing it as an election strategy and in a way makes it legit.

So upgrading is a legitimate carrot to dangle despite its inherent illegality.

Wahoo.

ST go esad la.

Hui Ji Dan! Gomez a liar, so sue us: MM Lee

Every word in the statement made by Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng is "justified and can be defended in any court", said Mr Lee.

"So we say Gomez is a liar and dishonest. He can say its libel. He can sue Wong Kan Seng. He can sue me. But he's got to go to the witness box," said Mr Lee.

i think its not fair they can bash the integrity of someone
PM 01:21
and claim to have evidence
PM 01:21
but if anyone says bad abt them
PM 01:21
and have evidence
PM 01:21
e.g. CONCRETE evidence HPL style
PM 01:22
they will still kenna sue until no money.

where the fuck is the logic?

SM Goh says Gomez issue has raised questions about latter's character

These headlines were from the recent onlines newspapers like straits times and channelnewsasia. I for one am damn sick of this gomez nonsense. I think the real question is, there's no reason for him to withold the form and if the PAP can't focus on that question, and instead wants to bash the guy's integrity over a mistake, I think they're making themselves look very silly. Read the other online blogs regarding gomez and see for yourselves. If the PAP are going to resort to name calling and opposition bashing in their rallies, I don't see a point even attending them. Going to a rally and hearing an MP bash gomez is just a waste of time. To me, the issues are regarding the problems which Singaporeans perceive. Not the integrity bashing of a guy's mistake. C'mon, people make mistakes. That's what makes us humans. Apparently the PAP aren't really human hur. Hurhurhur. I'm sure somebody inside the party also makes mistakes. Just that they're better at covering up. Hiakhiakhiak.

But don't take my word for it, go visit some rallies and hear for yourselves. I heard Low Thia Kiang's speech on a blog somewhere. Quite good. I also heard the PAP one over the radio. Or was that a news broadcast? I dunno man... their side everything all mixed up. Media is too PAP friendly methinks.

Finally Xiaoyun's exams are finishing! Wahoo... Bangkok here we come! :)

Sitoh v Chiam

Sitoh visited Xiaoyun's grandmother this morning. As you can see, she was living in the Potong Pasir constituency.

"Hello auntie... etc. etc. etc. Vote for me, vote for me you will get upgrading in the next 3-4 years!"

-- I don't need upgrading (she replied), 3-4 years I might not even be around! I am very old. You ask me to move here move there, I get very very tired!

""Err... vote for me and we will have upgrading of facilities as well, not just the flat. You can enjoy the renovated gardens and pavilions downstairs! The opposition don't have money for upgrading one! Vote for me then you all will have upgrading! Only PAP got the money."

-- I don't need all this la. It's very simple for me. I just want to wake up in the morning, have my cup of tea, play ball games in the nearby park, eat at the coffeeshop downstairs and see my grandchildren grow up.

"Ha... er auntie, remember to vote for me hor!"

-- Aiya, you don't know? I vote for you every year! But you still lose! You make me so disappointed!

"... I promise this year won't lose already!"

PS: The exact same talk occured between them 10 years ago in the last election. Or was it 5 years?

Actually she was a Chiam supporter. Chiam being 71 years old does seem more towards her age. She felt so proud that she bluff Sitoh. When she was talking to her she felt like a STAR because all the other old people around were looking at her. Hurhurhur.

But one thing does come to mind. If Sitoh can make the statement of 'Don't vote for opposition, they have no money for upgrading!' it comes off that the PAP are fundamentally wrong. They should not promise to use government funds for election purposes. I mean think of it this way. They are using our tax money to do things for us and they deny poor Chiam from using the same monies to upgrade his constituency on the basis of LKY's 'obviously we will not help the opposition ward with upgrading until all the upgrading for our wards are done'. I don't know. Using government funds for party purposes is kinda wrong. That's why you don't really see Opposition members saying they can assure upgrading. Because they know that it's controlled. The main man said it himself.

But enough flogging dead horses.

Chiam is a people's people. I heard from Xiaoyun's grandma that he has a fan club. And whatever he likes or craves to eat, his wife will call the aunties and they will mobilise and cook for him. I believe that's the level of being a people's people. Sitoh will never understand that. Even if he does manage to win this year, he will never be as well received as Chiam in Potong Pasir. In my opinion la.

I remember something else that's relevant. My East Coast GRC is up for a tussle and frankly speaking, I am not that inclined towards voting for the Worker's Party. That doesn't mean I want to vote for the PAP. I personally think the bit about James Gomez was overdone. In all due respect, I heard the telecast by the ministers on radio/tv commenting that Gomez's integrity is taking a hit, is he the type of person you want to represent you is all bullshit. Have they heard themselves speak? They sound worse than the guy in slippers that tried to run for President a few years back. The form thing to me seems really like a genuine mistake. I mean, WHATS THE PURPOSE OF WITHOLDING THE FORM AT ALL? Isn't it a detriment to themselves? Then what's the point of hindering their own election right... silly PAP, still insist for dunno what shit, I read the headlines more and more and I get the impression that the PAP are actually kinda grabbing on this event to tarnish him BUT they turn out looking like petty little children. No meh? Go read the straits times online... see headlines can see already.

Then hor, the newspapers also bias one. When got PAP news, it's full page. No ads. But worker's party page have to fight with the Court's mega sale. I think normal aunties will be distracted no? Then again, normal aunties don't read straits times...

Shit la, I'm sleepy. Sat still have to vote. Singapore should take a lesson from Bangkok. Include a box for abstaining to vote. So that we won't anyhow vote useless people in, yet if we abstain sufficiently, we can send a message that there's something wrong with the PAP and we want to address that. 40% abstinence votes in Bangkok and the stepping down of Thaksin can't be anything but a good example to what we need in Singapore.

Oh no. Hungry.
