Is the new bus route a little silly?

The new bus route is gonna be a loop. Does that mean we start at kent vale and we end at kent vale and the denizens inbetween will have to wait at kent vale 'terminal' (that gorram piece of rock) for the next bus to take back into civilization (ala A1, A2 kind of loop?)

If so, then don't the night class people have it bad? I mean If you manage to catch the last bus out of BTC, there ain't gonna be no bus to bring you back to your hostel and you'll have to walk. Happy feet walk. Brilliant money saving scheme ya got there OSA. Wahoo. Tell me how else you're saving our school fees? Giving the cookhouse aunties $ per head according to the number of matric cards they swipe but yet charging us for every single ruttin meal? Wunderbug~!

Since when is running a school business. This isn't House MD. Charging me $5 for leaving a gate open when it's all the ang mohs fault isn't smart. It just means more letters to OSA after exams are over. You'll see.

Amazon is a big waste of time

Some of you may know about the $100 Xbox 360 deal over at Amazon. Well. They're supposed to sell 1000 units at $100 come thursday 11am PST. which makes out to be friday 3am Singapore time. Come 2:45am I was online at the page refreshing. 2:54 I refreshed and the bloody thing hung. I checked out my yahoo mail. It was fine. Must be the traffic on the amazon site. Couldn't get any page to load at all. 3am came and went. 3:15am, i was greeted with this finally:

So they managed to sell 1000 units in 15mins. How the hell did the 1000 people log on when i'm unable to even refresh the page? Abit absurd. I hope next week's one's better. Diamond earrings srp $1kplus usd. now $350.

OoooOoo.. I should really be studying.

Ballad of Serenity

Take my love. Take my land.
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black.
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land And boil the sea.
You can't take the sky from me.

Have no place I can be since I found Serenity.
But you can't take the sky from me.

The monster is slain!

The 5,000 word monster comes up to 10,000 words with footnotes. And i still haven't killed off 80 words to make it 5,000 words yet.

But it shall be done. Tomorrow.

Today, a new 2,500 word monster in the form of Copyright must be destroyed.

Wahoo! Another Blogger's fiasco!

Extremely farni read. I meant the comments by the sammyboy members at the end of the post... Personally there's nothing much to say about such people except YOU made it happen. YOU = the ones that put a tick next to the lightning bolt during the last GE Elections or any other previous elections when you had a chance to vote. What's ironical is that her insensitive pro-gov remarks are OK as endorsed by her father (even bottomer <-- is there such a word? part of the post) ha ha ha. Plus printed in newspaper sommore. Therefore gov endorses such discrimination of the lower income people la? The MP says it's ok. Freedom of speech. Yada yada. But isn't it exactly the same as racism which we (and the PAP) condone? I would think that the racial riots taught us a lesson which is why we make sure we have racial harmony day now and all the silly pictures of different races holding hands and smiling. So they're not worried that the poor won't take arms and revolt against the gov? I thought they did that in Hougang already? Unfortunately this didn't come just before elections, if not the opposition members would all have a field day... They should be very worried about this MP's siding of his daughter and in my opinion, he should rightfully be sacked for endorsing her ridiculous view. Don't tell me he has a bloody good portfolio. The fact is that on job training can ease any decent fellow with a brain in initiative into the job... and experience can be accumulated. if not, graduates no need to find work already. And tell Mr Brown that blogs are private. Or rather, tell the gov to stop regulating blogs. They do it first, then he can start siding with his daughter. And I shall not comment on her breasts.

Some of us have read the commentary, Future of Singapore, by Derek Wee, a 35 year old Singaporean. The commentary has made its rounds in cyberspace and is reproduced below for those who might not have come across it yet.

The purpose of this thread is to highlight a response to Derek Wee's commentary from a very bright RJC girl. The response is taken from her blog. She shares the same surname as Derek. Her academic achievements are impressive. She was from the elite gifted program at RGS who went on to top Singapore in the GCE 'O'-levels in 2004. She also won the Prime Minister's Book Prize for purportedly being effectively bilingual in Chinese and English (even though she often expresses her disdain for the Chinese language). And she is fluent in French. Her dad is one of the men-in-white. Naturally, hers is a highly affluent and privileged background. And without doubt too, hers is the perfect pedigree for joining the ranks of the highest echelons of the government.

Reproduced below are firstly, Ms Wee's response to Derek Wee's commentary and secondly, the original commentary by Derek Wee.

mom's friend sent her some blog post by some bleeding stupid 40-year old singaporean called derek wee (WHY do all the idiots have my surname why?!) whining about how singapore is such an insecure place, how old ppl (ie, 40 and above) fear for their jobs, how the pool of foreign "talent" (dismissively chucked between inverted commas) is really a tsunami that will consume us all (no actually he didn't say that, he probably said Fouren Talern Bery Bad.), how the reason why no one wants kids is that they're a liability in this world of fragile ricebowls, how the government really needs to save us from inevitable doom but they aren't because they are stick-shoved-up-ass elites who have no idea how the world works, yadayadayadayada.

i am inclined - too much, perhaps - to dismiss such people as crackpots. stupid crackpots. the sadder class. too often singaporeans - both the neighborhood poor and the red-taloned socialites - kid themselves into believing that our society, like most others, is compartmentalized by breeding. ridiculous. we are a tyranny of the capable and the clever, and the only other class is the complement.

sad derek attracted more than 50 comments praising him for his poignant views, joining him in a chorus of complaints that climax at the accusation of lack of press freedom because his all-too-true views had been rejected by the straits times forum. while i tend to gripe about how we only have one functioning newspaper too, i think the main reason for its lack of publication was that his incensed diatribe was written in pathetic little scraps that passed off as sentences, with poor spelling and no grammar.

derek, derek, derek darling, how can you expect to have an iron ricebowl or a solid future if you cannot spell?

if you're not good enough, life will kick you in the balls. that's just how things go. there's no point in lambasting the government for making our society one that is, i quote, "far too survival of fittest". it's the same everywhere. yes discrimination exists, and it is sad, but most of the time if people would prefer hiring other people over you, it's because they're better. it's so sad when people like old derek lament the kind of world that singapore will be if we make it so uncertain. go be friggin communist, if uncertainty of success offends you so much - you will certainly be poor and miserable. unless you are an arm-twisting commie bully, which, given your whiny middle-class undereducated penchant, i doubt.

then again, it's easy for me to say. my future isn't certain but i guess right now it's a lot brighter than most people's. derek will read this and brand me as an 18-year old elite, one of the sinners who will inherit the country and run his stock to the gutter. go ahead. the world is about winners and losers. it's only sad when people who could be winners are marginalised and oppressed. is dear derek starving? has dear derek been denied an education? has dear derek been forced into child prostitution? has dear derek had his clan massacred by the government?

i should think not. dear derek is one of many wretched, undermotivated, overassuming leeches in our country, and in this world. one of those who would prefer to be unemployed and wax lyrical about how his myriad talents are being abandoned for the foreigner's, instead of earning a decent, stable living as a sales assistant. it's not even about being a road sweeper. these shitbags don't want anything without "manager" and a name card.

please, get out of my elite uncaring face.

By Derek Wee
Oct 12, 2006

When I read the Straits Times article (dated 24 Sep) on PM Lee calling the young to be committed and make a difference to Singapore, I have so much thought about the issue.

I am 35 years old, graduated from University and gainfully employed in a multinational company. But I cannot help but feel insecure over the future of Singapore. Lets face it, it's not uncommon to hear, "when you are above 40, you are over the hill".

The government has been stressing on re-training, skills upgrading and re-adapt. The fact is, no matter how well qualified or adaptable one is, once you hit the magical 40, employers will say, "you are simply too old".

We have been focusing our resources and problem solving on low unskilled labour. But in reality, our managerial positions and skilled labour force are actually fast losing its competitiveness.

I travel around the region frequently for the past 10 years. It didn't take me long to realise how far our neighbours have come over the past decade.

They have quality skilled workers, and are less expensive. When I work with them, their analytical skills are equally good, if not better than us.

It's not new anymore. Taxi drivers are fast becoming "too early to retire, too old to work" segment of the society. I like to talk to taxi drivers whenever I am heading for the airport.

There was this driver. Eloquent and well read. He was an export manager for 12 years with an MNC. Retrenched at 40 years old. He had been searching for a job since his retrenchment.

Although he was willing to lower his pay expectations, employers were not willing to lower their prejudice. He was deemed too old. I wouldn't be surprised if we have another No. 1; having the most highly educated taxi drivers in the world.

On PM Lee calling the young to be committed and make a difference. Look around us. How dedicated can we be to Singapore when we can visualise what's in store for us after we turned 40? Then again, how committed are employers to us? But we can't blame them. They have bottom lines & shareholders' gain to answer to.

Onus is really on the government to revamp the society. A society that is not a pressure cooker. A society that does not mirror so perfectly, what survival of the fittest is....[Message truncated]

She writes well, but omg, if she is writing from her heart, then I truly fear for the future. In fact, although Derek's article is not published in ST, this girl's blog article should be, if only to illustrate how the young and privileged actually think. Nothing wrong with meritocracy per se, but she exhibits a very right-wing type of thinking and attitude.

She wrote macam she got some brains and ink leh, don't get people disorientated on her G girl-cup neh neh leh.
Gifted to write maybe, not genius.
BTW How u know her neh neh is G-cup?

And here was her public apology on one of the blogs that were discussing her entry :
i apologise if i have distressed you with my tendency to rant. while i will not dispute some of the points you make in response to what i have written, i would like to bring to your attention the fact that the post in question was never meant to be a cogent response to the specific points raised in derek wee’s article. it is, quite obviously, a rant in the heat of the moment. in addition, i don’t believe that my blog has the wide readership of derek wee’s, or even your own, and my intention was more to vent my own frustrations than public denouncement.

i’d also like to clarify my use of the word “elite”. while i understand how misinterpretation may have arose, i intended to use it in irony, as a label that people assume i enjoy, and not one that i take particular pleasure in.

finally, i admit that i was harsher than i should have been, although the the crux of my belief in self-improvement and self-determination has not changed. once again, i apologise if my words have unintentionally offended you - i was under the rather naive impression that nobody reads my blog

--------------------

A lesson learnt, says MP and dad Wee Siew Kim:
'WHAT she said did come across as insensitive. The language was stronger than what most people could take.

But she wrote in a private blog and I feel that her privacy has been violated. After all, they were the rantings of an 18-year-old among friends.

I think if you cut through the insensitivity of the language, her basic point is reasonable, that is, that a well-educated university graduate who works for a multinational company should not be bemoaning about the Government and get on with the challenges in life.

Nonetheless, I have counselled her to learn from it. Some people cannot take the brutal truth and that sort of language, so she ought to learn from it.

In our current desire to encourage more debate, especially through the Internet, our comments must be tempered with sensitivity.

I will not gag her, since she's 18 and should be able to stand by what she says.

The new media of the Internet is such that if you don't like what she has said, you have the right of rebuttal.

Hopefully, after the discussion, everyone will be the richer for it. As a parent, I may not have inculcated the appropriate level of sensitivity, but she has learnt a lesson, and it's good that she has learnt it at such an early stage in life.'

Fight Fraud... Right...

I already know the answer before I sent my comments but I still sent it anyway..."different laws e.g. common and civil law... not cost effective... if processing small claims cross-jurisdictionally..." but isn't that the whole point of the small claims tribunal? To help pursue justice for the everyday man that kenna non-payment/fraud/petty crime? Why cannot extend overseas? Unrealistic? I don't think so. Government so much money, now everything also can e-online already. They can have macham e-court I don't believe they cannot global e-court. Or it can be a simple matter of a judge coming up with his opinion on the case here, then sending the documents via email (or through their superb court system) and the other side opening it up and speaking with the accused, peruse the evidence and opinion in front of him, then the 2 judges correspond and reach a verdict. Not cost effective because the claims are too small? KNN it IS a SMALL CLAIMS TRIBUNAL anyway right? That's your bloody purpose.

Will my invention fail for non-obviousness? NO! Because it's an idea, not an invention! hurhurhur...

The One with the Engineer

Monday, September 18, 2006 <-- from xy's blog
Joke of the Day...Engineers! *tsk tsk tsk*
DUring tutorial for History of military thoughts today, my lecturer from Australia told a very funny joke to demonstrate the point on how engineers are not the smartest people around. Well at least I thought it were hilarious. My kind of joke, and sorry to those engineers out there reading this...I'm not apologetic. Heeh

When a lecturer says "Good Morning" to a class from Arts, the students will reply by nodding their head.
When a lecturer says "Good Morning" to a class from Science, the students will echo back the same words.
When a lecturer says "Good Morning" to a class from Engineering....they'll write it down.

An engineer replied to it:

In the working world,
When someone says good morning to an engineer, the engineer nods his head in reply.

When someone says good morning to a business grad, the business grad nods his head in reply.

When someone says good morning to an arts grad, the arts grad replies to the engineern, "Good morning boss, coffee with milk?"

I'm sorry 'anonymous', but you just don't make sense. If you're trying to say that engineers are 'higher up' than arts grads, your joke just isn't phrased correctly. (which illustrates the point that engineers just don't know how to work with language. they copy but they dunno how to apply. hurhurhur) I'm not against a good joke. but a bad joke. no no no no.

what your joke says is that is someone says good morning to an engineer or a businessman, they will only nod their heads in reply. but if someone says good morning to an arts grad, he will reply TO THE ENGINEER with 'good morning boss, coffee with milk?'

that's wrong in so many ways.

when you say the engineer and businessman nod their heads in reply, it is implied that they're busy. or they just couldn't care less. that's fine.

but whenever someone says good morning to an arts grad, there are 4 implications. (i) the arts grad doesn't reply to the someone and instead finds an engineer to reply to (ii) only engineers are polite enough to greet people good morning --> this also implies they're too free to go around greeting people, and there is also the conflicting view that if engineers are nice enough to greet people, why are they so mean to each other and only nod their heads in reply? (iii) that arts grads are the only nice people that reply to greetings or (iv) that the arts grad is the employee of the engineer (I guess this is what you are trying to mean). WTF is an 'engineern' anyway?

As you can see, due to the various obvious differences in implications from the statement, your punchline is fundamentally flawed. Incoherent and shows just how much of an 'engineern' you are. Wahoo! (Now that's a joke!)

If you're looking at stereotyping the jobs of an arts graduate, you might want to understand the situation first. Usually arts graduates aren't associated with working under engineers per se. So your observation is unfortunately wrong. Perhaps you might want to try illustrating the arts grad as working in the teaching line after graduation. Afterall that's where many of them go to.

No arts grad will actually work under an engineer in a plant or construction industries. It's not within their scope. Perhaps you might want to come up with a joke involving an arts grad studying all the way to get his/her degree only to be assigned to primary school and having to clean her student's backside coz he/she just shat in class. That'll be an implication of doing all the studying just to land in a position of doing what he/she didn't need all that education for. To clean up children's shit.

If you do wanna change 'someone' to 'engineer' in the joke, it'll come off like this:

When an engineer says good morning to another engineer, the other engineer nods his head in reply
--> implication, either busy or rude. that's fine.

When an engineer says good morning to a businessman, the businessman nods his head in reply
--> implication, either busy, or the engineer very irritating he don't want to talk to him.

Then you can say:
When an engineer says good morning to an arts grad, the arts grad replies: Good morning boss, coffee with milk?
--> only then can you draw the inference that he's an employee.

Might I add a line to the joke in an attempt to make it funny. Instead of 'someone' I'll be 'specific' here.

When an engineer says good morning to a lawyer, the lawyer (probably from WongP) replies to the engineer, "How? Got new case for me ah?"

(PS: You might want to know that many of the IMF delegates are arts grads. Whilst... sad to say the engineers were lacking at the meetings. I wonder why. Busy dreaming about ordering arts grads around I suppose)

9:01 AM

You sad sad little engineern.

There is also the stereotype that engineers in nus are desperate. Why?. Here's an extract from someone's blog. I randomly googled it so no offence if it's yours:

What's the course like?

Enjoyable. For one thing, u are gonna have lots of female classmates. That's a enviable position compared to other eng discipline.

KNN. come to study or pao char bo. No wonder struggling with studies la, got time to eavesdrop on girls summore:

I overheard a conversation between these two undergrads. One was complaining regarding the amount of test she has. The other was complaining regarding the projects due. I was quite curious and listened on. Horrors of horror, one had only 2 mid term tests and the other had 2 projects due. Sigh, I share my plight together with the other hundred over engine undergrads, mugging away in the day & night, burning the “mid-night oil”. 5 mid term papers my friend! Plus one essay assignment. And best of all, the test was freaking difficult.

Sigh. Gone were the slack-laid-back days in the Police Force. Time to get back to reality.

---

If they had spent less time ogling at arts girls and more time studying, they might probably be doing pretty well... You wanna slack, go back police force la. soon i shall blog about my visit to the police station. no i wasn't caught. that was last time. hurhurhur. this time my turn to lodge report... and boy was the office 'helpful'... knn...

Interesting turn of events. Nerdy boy's getting AGGRESSIVE!!!! wahoo... Here's a peek at his blog: I don't want him tracing all the new traffic to my site. BEWARE though. When u think that the contents are written by a 23 year old individual... you will realise that it's damn creepy... Skali he get MORE AGGRESSIVE. Then very mafan for the poor girls. Yeah. Her fren. He's into CARPET BOMBING these days.

Anyway.. actual event went like this: A was late for class and msg her fren to save a seat for her. so she did, and they colaborated to leave immediately after class so that the nerd can't follow them. easy for them to think that way.. considering he was at the back of the class. what happened was once lesson ended, they packed and chiong out.. aiming to go girls toilet where nerd can't follow. but SWAY ah. he DAMN FAST. bashed through the class and cornered them before they reached the toilet..

Advertisement >april wants a special menition in this entry cos she's with him at BLARDY CONSTRUCTION CLASS>

"Hey, you all want to meet up during the holidays?"

A: meet for what?

"Can exchange notes or meet for tea/coffee or chat" <-- along these lines

A: no.

A's fren: er... er.... i'm going Batam.

"When are you coming back?"

A: I have to go toilet now. bye bye!

When reading his blog, do watch out for instances where he says he's supposed to meet someone for lunch then she cannot make it. Read between the lines. PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO HAVE LUNCH WITH HIM. also see how he always tries to meet GIRLS for lunch. or basically to go out. I don't need to read psychology I also know that he's in desperate need for ASSERTION. By asking girls out he's basically trying to assert himself that people still care about him. Or that he actually exists in society.

Isn't that sad?

By imposing himself on others just to assure himself that he has a reason to live... it's NOT FAIR TO THE OTHERS. why must other people be forced to tolerate his unwanted presence just because he's a sad individual?

Some people should just understand that sometimes, it's not about the trying. It's about being who they are and instead of forcing people that don't want to be with you to eat lunch with you, go seek out your fellow nerds from science club or something. There's a fine line between annoyance and friendliness.

sad to say, you just don't get it.

Bukit Timah Campus Canteen is Screwed up

I got cheated again by the BTC Canteen. Damn du lan. Cheebye chicken rice seller try to be funny. Last time i packet back he charge me public price. Then the Fan Choy Auntie I buy 2 veggie 1 rice she count me price of 1 meat 1 veggie. She say curry veggie not counted as veggie coz got coconut milk. KNN. Last time i buy before twice also no problem. I just want a snack before class obviously I buy a little bit to eat only right? Put the price up there very clear but still dare to thock me. Today the chicken rice uncle damn cheebye. I see 2 meat 1 rice $2.50, I ask for that, 1 white chicken 1 roast chicken. He count me $4. I told him uncle, i'm student ley. He say 2 portions of meat $4. KNN. Then where's my extra portion of rice and cucumber? Alot of people I don't ge gao with him. But after that I go ask him. He say 2 meat = 1 chicken, 1 char siew. Then i say underneath you write meat = charsiew, chicken, roast chicken. damn misleading la. where got this type of reasoning one. Crazy bugger. They put the price up there don't follow. To top it off, my hot teh was salty. KNN...

I'm finally posting a blog

Guess what. A nerd tried to pick up my gf. Oh well. I mean I sorta expect guys to *try* to pick her up once in a while. That doesn't mean I like it. I do try to warn her. As a guy you can sense male tetestorone invading you radar. But sometimes, if not most of the times, she won't believe me and says I'm overreacting. Which to a certain degree (almost always) I am. I overreact because I can't stand the idea of some guy leaning against the door and going all let's do lunch kinda thing. Much less when I'm stuck over here at BTC. Damn you NUS. So today was another long day in which we're apart and she tells me a nerd tried to pick her up. Not a nerd. The nerd that called her the night before and frequently sms' her. I swear to god he's the most bloody thick skinned nerd I've ever heard about. Not met. I haven't met him yet. But well. I guess it's funny. But it's also disgusting to imagine that a nerd can be so thick skinned as to plonk himself down when she's at the canteen alone. She showed me his website. It was horrible. Kinda like Steven Lim but much more pathetic. Here was a guy that loved baring all (not naked) to everyone willing to watch. He basically updates his online journal faithfully. "Today I took a bus and I saw this girl sms'ing her friend. It was a sad message and I think I saw her cry after that. Sometimes I wish I was had someone special that I can pine or miss etc.' You get the drift. Mr Nerdypants wants a Mrs Nerdypants to get into his pants. Notwithstanding the scientific fact that most nerds are internet porn enthusiats, they're also pretty efficient with the computer. For hobbies he had listed 'basic html'. I almost posted a reply on his journal to the effect of 'you sad sad little man'. Yeah. That's what he basically is. A sad little man hiding away in his little computer world at the end of everyday. Just hoping that someone will read and message him. Message just to show him that someone still cares. Oh yeah. Going back to the message. I almost left the message but for a small sign at the bottom of the page which said 'your ip address will be logged etc etc etc' basic html cheebye. Thank you IT Law II! Wahaha. I dunno la. It's not so bad that she knows how to take care of herself. She knows or tries to avoid such weirdos. But the fact is they're classmates and she can't keep avoiding him all the time. I know he stalked her after class just to plonk himself down on that seat (he's got some big-ass nerd guts) but it's it just disgusting to know that other guys are just trying to be funny when you can't be around? And last time there was this disgusting (I like that word) or irritating (this might be more appropriate) gym instructor that kept messaging her can calling her sweetie and stuff. I mean. Please la. Respect people. If they don't reply back to your sms and don't pick up your calls, don't bother already can? I mean it's not her fault the cheebyes want to chase her. But I just don't like them being too friendly. There's a limit to my tolerance. Not her fault though, their fault. But what can I do? Not even a lawyer. So can only curse them lo. Hahaha. Then again I think back and realise that it's quite sad for them. Ok. Maybe sad for the nerd la. Gym instructor probably not as sad. But when you're a nerd, society basically condemns you to high hell. By society I mean me. You are there. You discuss sociology society things. You sit in a circle with your smelly friends talking about uninteresting subjects. You get orgasms from thinking about you being the one actually making that scientifc discovery/theory and not einstein. (I got the smelly friends from the grey tshirt guy this afternoon. Boy he stunk~) You basically have no life. If I had your website I'd rather die.

However, nerds are a human being too. So I can't be too harsh on you. I understand you didn't choose to be that way. It just sort of evolved there. You drew the short end of the evolution stick. You got stuck in the 80s. It's not your fault. Given a chance you might have been a cool kid. But somehow it just sorta ended up this way. Who can you blame? Your parents? Nah... Maybe you can blame society. (This time I don't mean me) for stereotyping your kind in all forms of media. (But hey, I liked Napolean Dynamite, see, you can be a cool nerd if you tried really really hard) I mean, nobody is inherently ugly. Except uglyhead (read Frankenstein #1 by Grant Morrison). Oh yeah. I sorta got reminded of him when I saw your photo. But honestly. No. Sorry. Don't even come near me. Elitist? No la. I prefer not to get infected. Hey, I'm a nerd at heart. I think. I mean nerds can be cool people as long as they don't behave like how people perceive them to be. Then they just become stereotypes themselves. If they try they might be able to join the normal human race. Maybe. But if that happens, science faculty will have very little people. But what really constitutes a nerd? Is it the specs? The haircut? The high pants? The dressing overall? The mannerisms? The smell? The huge bag <- variable? Or is it what they do? Hobbies like stamp collecting? Computer porn surfing? Html? Haha. I am deliciously brimming with rubbish at the moment. I could go on forever nitpicking at this nerd that I'm just so disgusted with.

Eeks.

Eeks.

Ah well, I might have been a tad mean for bashing him to this extent. Karma. Karma.

Elections over. Same Gahmen.

What a sad election. For the hundred thousand that turned up at the WP rallies, you might think this election would be different. Unfortunately everything's the same, and that includes the biasness of the press. As many might have known, the Hougang rally pictures that have been circulating the internet have never made it into any newspaper. It is to this detriment that the general public do not have any idea that there ARE supporters for the opposition and that the ST is just a bloody unreliable piece of pangsai. I don't need to mention how they bend over backwards for the gahment and the PAP. I think we can safely see from the results that most of the general public are still clueless about the scale of opposition support in other constiutencies and perhaps they should seek to other avenues to gather more information to better aid their voting decision. But that's a matter for the next election.

I was particularly pissed that the election committee at Bedok Green were so inflexible regarding the voting process. On my way to the voting centre, I passed by some elderly folks walking and they seemed very much in pain (or maybe they're just old). After I was done voting and I stepped out of the school, I met the same old folks just reaching. Despite the distance being like less than 100m. There were so many elderly voters yet they refused to open a sidegate so that the old folks don't have to walk AROUND the school to get to the main entrance. Talk about caring for the people. Fookers. This reminds me of the PAP van that goes around spouting a recorded 'Vote for us.. etc'. Don't you think it's a stark contrast to the WP people going around waving and smiling in their van? The sincerity for one is a very good reason to vote opposition. The incumbents think too highly for themselves. They think the people want stability and that is something the opposition cannot offer them. So they ya ya just play recorded message and take the people for granted. Nabei.

And you know what? The majority are still stupid. As we can see from the votes. They think the incumbents = stability. But they don't realise that the only reason why there might be no stability if the oppositions are voted in is because of the incumbent's refusal to co-operate and generally making life difficult for them and their wards. So it all boils down to the incumbents again. They are therefore actually voting the incumbents so that their constituency will not have any government trouble. Sounds like secret society and protection rackets right? Hahaha...

Oh well. I guess Singaporeans may need another 5 years to wake up. Perhaps they'll realise their mistake soon when the prices of everything go up within the next 5 months. By then, they might do peaceful protests ala Thaksin to make young master Lee step down. But that's just a silly dream. Not my dream of course. Wayne's. My dream is just to grow old with xy. Hurhurhur.

Suicide in Johor Bahru

Yesterday we had a relatively fun but tiring day in JB. Travelling in by bus and walking to City Square on foot, we took in the fumes of the city as our tummies growled. I was late by 20 mins la. My fault. Lucky you all forgot to mention I was supposed to treat lunch later. Hurhurhur.

50% off Secret Recipes was good. Cake was good. But what really took the cake was when Lerk&Siwei&April&Angelene saw a dead man at Holiday Plaza after lunch. Engaging in friendly banter with a local pirated DVD seller, I managed to get the information that the guy had committed suicide via jumping off the 5 storey building. As eyewitnesses described, he was lying face down with alot of blood pooling near his mouth. Around him were a crowd of onlookers and the two policemen whom arrived on the scene chose to sit in the comfort of their car and not attend to the crowd. Heh. Maybe they figured since the guy was dead no need to treat as emergency already. This was evident by the fact that they were still there hours later but with a makeshift tarp covering the body and an umbrella on his head.

To make up for their inefficiency, the police decide to take a stroll around holiday plaza. So they walk walk walk walk walk and wherever they walked, the DVD shops close. Then we kenna stuck inside for like 1/2 hr watching some silly Stephen Chow movie... Oh yes. Dinner was fantastic as usual. Around sgd $10 per person. Eat like kings (and queens)... Afterwhich Melanie upped the ante by bringing back 7 pirated discs through customs. Usually I only dare to bring 6. Budden sad for her. Her discs cannot work. Hurhurhur...

Alrighty. Time to go repair my printer. It's got slime inside. Eech.

Straits Times Online should just ESAD

Every frickin picture on their homepage (under headline news) is of a PAP member meeting some children or attending some event. Bloody bias.

Then you read their only articles on the opposition:

-----

Some say Mr Goh's presence here shows that the PAP doesn't have confidence in Eric. But I think it gives Eric more confidence, it shows that the PAP really wants him to win. I think some people will vote for Eric to give Mr Goh mian zi (face).'

Although few would dismiss altogether the impact of Mr Goh's substantial reputation on voters, Mr Eric Low still has to overcome a couple of major obstacles.

One is his role as adviser to the ward's PAP grassroots organisations. It is a double-edged sword as many residents view him as their 'second MP' - another official whom they can turn to with their municipal problems, another source of administrative and financial aid.

This privilege of enjoying PAP-funded services, on top of those provided by incumbent Low Thia Khiang, is not lost on the Workers' Party (WP) chief. He has gleefully exploited it on several occasions.

Most recently, it was the free breakfast Mr Eric Low gave weekly to elderly residents in Hougang. Said Mr Low Thia Khiang: 'Where else do you get free breakfasts, one-dollar shark's fin soup and abalone porridge, other than in the opposition wards?'

-----

It's absolutely disgusting how they can describe Mr Low as 'gleefully exploiting' something. Why don't they use such a phrase on the PAP guy Eric? They could use it such in "Eric Low gleefully exploited the visits by Mr Goh which were aimed to raise voters for the PAP in the Hougang constituency." Why don't they use it? Because it makes the guy being described look bad! Like some theiving scheming scum of the earth. Another hit for the Straits Times.

-----

Strongest weapon in PAP's arsenal

ANOTHER obstacle the PAP candidate has had to contend with is the worry among some lower-income people that they are going to lose their homes.

A recent visit to Blocks 3 and 4 in Hougang Avenue 3 left the 57-year-old feeling 'discouraged'.

'Residents asked me if it was true that these two blocks of rental flats will be torn down if I was elected. I don't know who spread these rumours,' he told The Straits Times.

He has repeatedly assured them that there are no plans to tear down the blocks. 'I told them, if these flats are torn down, where are the 1,000 people going to stay? At my house?'

However, he was 'encouraged' by the warmer reception that greeted him during his campaigning at the private housing enclave of Realty Park, compared to 2001.

In the end, the strongest weapon in his arsenal against Mr Low Thia Khiang in this election is the multi-million-dollar upgrading plan.

When he shaved the WP man's vote share from 58 per cent in the 1997 General Election to 55 per cent at the last polls, the incumbent attributed his reduced popularity to the upgrading carrot.

Then-prime minister Goh Chok Tong had offered to upgrade the estate if the WP chief's share of votes was reduced to 52 per cent.

Now, the PAP has raised the ante, with details on how Hougang will become an Eric Low showpiece.

-----

What's wrong with this? The paper is blatently endorsing the use of taxpayer's money for party uses. By not commenting on whether it is right or wrong (other than a statement by a resident above - not quoted) they mislead the public into thinking that ONLY THE PAP HAS THE FUNDS to upgrade. When actually the PAP is using taxpayer's money (that's yours and mine!) to pay for the upgrading and STILL charging the people money. On top of that, since when is it fair that the opposition has to draw on their own funds and the government incumbents can just use tax money? Why don't they be fair and allocate each town council the same amount of money maybe based on size? The paper instead of addressing such issues endorse it (maybe not intentionally) by printing it as an election strategy and in a way makes it legit.

So upgrading is a legitimate carrot to dangle despite its inherent illegality.

Wahoo.

ST go esad la.

Hui Ji Dan! Gomez a liar, so sue us: MM Lee

Every word in the statement made by Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng is "justified and can be defended in any court", said Mr Lee.

"So we say Gomez is a liar and dishonest. He can say its libel. He can sue Wong Kan Seng. He can sue me. But he's got to go to the witness box," said Mr Lee.

i think its not fair they can bash the integrity of someone
PM 01:21
and claim to have evidence
PM 01:21
but if anyone says bad abt them
PM 01:21
and have evidence

they will still kenna sue until no money.

SM Goh says Gomez issue has raised questions about latter's character

These headlines were from the recent onlines newspapers like straits times and channelnewsasia. I for one am damn sick of this gomez nonsense. I think the real question is, there's no reason for him to withold the form and if the PAP can't focus on that question, and instead wants to bash the guy's integrity over a mistake, I think they're making themselves look very silly. Read the other online blogs regarding gomez and see for yourselves. If the PAP are going to resort to name calling and opposition bashing in their rallies, I don't see a point even attending them. Going to a rally and hearing an MP bash gomez is just a waste of time. To me, the issues are regarding the problems which Singaporeans perceive. Not the integrity bashing of a guy's mistake. C'mon, people make mistakes. That's what makes us humans. Apparently the PAP aren't really human hur. Hurhurhur. I'm sure somebody inside the party also makes mistakes. Just that they're better at covering up. Hiakhiakhiak.

But don't take my word for it, go visit some rallies and hear for yourselves. I heard Low Thia Kiang's speech on a blog somewhere. Quite good. I also heard the PAP one over the radio. Or was that a news broadcast? I dunno man... their side everything all mixed up. Media is too PAP friendly methinks.

Finally Xiaoyun's exams are finishing! Wahoo... Bangkok here we come! :)

Sitoh v Chiam

Sitoh visited Xiaoyun's grandmother this morning. As you can see, she was living in the Potong Pasir constituency.

"Hello auntie... etc. etc. etc. Vote for me, vote for me you will get upgrading in the next 3-4 years!"

-- I don't need upgrading (she replied), 3-4 years I might not even be around! I am very old. You ask me to move here move there, I get very very tired!

""Err... vote for me and we will have upgrading of facilities as well, not just the flat. You can enjoy the renovated gardens and pavilions downstairs! The opposition don't have money for upgrading one! Vote for me then you all will have upgrading! Only PAP got the money."

-- I don't need all this la. It's very simple for me. I just want to wake up in the morning, have my cup of tea, play ball games in the nearby park, eat at the coffeeshop downstairs and see my grandchildren grow up.

"Ha... er auntie, remember to vote for me hor!"

-- Aiya, you don't know? I vote for you every year! But you still lose! You make me so disappointed!

"... I promise this year won't lose already!"

PS: The exact same talk occured between them 10 years ago in the last election. Or was it 5 years?

Actually she was a Chiam supporter. Chiam being 71 years old does seem more towards her age. She felt so proud that she bluff Sitoh. When she was talking to her she felt like a STAR because all the other old people around were looking at her. Hurhurhur.

But one thing does come to mind. If Sitoh can make the statement of 'Don't vote for opposition, they have no money for upgrading!' it comes off that the PAP are fundamentally wrong. They should not promise to use government funds for election purposes. I mean think of it this way. They are using our tax money to do things for us and they deny poor Chiam from using the same monies to upgrade his constituency on the basis of LKY's 'obviously we will not help the opposition ward with upgrading until all the upgrading for our wards are done'. I don't know. Using government funds for party purposes is kinda wrong. That's why you don't really see Opposition members saying they can assure upgrading. Because they know that it's controlled. The main man said it himself.

But enough flogging dead horses.

Chiam is a people's people. I heard from Xiaoyun's grandma that he has a fan club. And whatever he likes or craves to eat, his wife will call the aunties and they will mobilise and cook for him. I believe that's the level of being a people's people. Sitoh will never understand that. Even if he does manage to win this year, he will never be as well received as Chiam in Potong Pasir. In my opinion la.

I remember something else that's relevant. My East Coast GRC is up for a tussle and frankly speaking, I am not that inclined towards voting for the Worker's Party. That doesn't mean I want to vote for the PAP. I personally think the bit about James Gomez was overdone. In all due respect, I heard the telecast by the ministers on radio/tv commenting that Gomez's integrity is taking a hit, is he the type of person you want to represent you is all bullshit. Have they heard themselves speak? They sound worse than the guy in slippers that tried to run for President a few years back. The form thing to me seems really like a genuine mistake. I mean, WHATS THE PURPOSE OF WITHOLDING THE FORM AT ALL? Isn't it a detriment to themselves? Then what's the point of hindering their own election right... silly PAP, still insist for dunno what shit, I read the headlines more and more and I get the impression that the PAP are actually kinda grabbing on this event to tarnish him BUT they turn out looking like petty little children. No meh? Go read the straits times online... see headlines can see already.

Then hor, the newspapers also bias one. When got PAP news, it's full page. No ads. But worker's party page have to fight with the Court's mega sale. I think normal aunties will be distracted no? Then again, normal aunties don't read straits times...

Shit la, I'm sleepy. Sat still have to vote. Singapore should take a lesson from Bangkok. Include a box for abstaining to vote. So that we won't anyhow vote useless people in, yet if we abstain sufficiently, we can send a message that there's something wrong with the PAP and we want to address that. 40% abstinence votes in Bangkok and the stepping down of Thaksin can't be anything but a good example to what we need in Singapore.

Oh no. Hungry.

Free Holiday!

I just received a free holiday. It's a 13D12N all lodging and transport paid trip to Bangkok, Pattaya and Changmai, courtesy of our dear gahment. Yeah. I'm sure many of you above 21 realise that it's actually the progress package everybody's been talking about. But let me be happy. I paid $530 for ticket and lodging and I estimate $170 in transport fees. I then prayed very hard for it to be free. Volia. Gahment answered my prayers.

But does that mean I will vote for them in the upcoming elections?

Bigger question: Do I even need to vote? Usually bedok's a walkover.

I do realise however that recently, many of the mid-20s singaporeans have begin siding with the opposition parties. This is both good and bad. Good because we must show the gahment that yes. We're still not happy with how many things are handled and the only way as our dear old LKY used to put it, is to show them this through the ballot box. Bad because sometimes, just sometimes, the opposition isn't as good as what we think.

Perhaps a middle ground can be reached via the recent Thaksin-Thailand elections. Casting a vote of no-confidence may just as effectively show that (i) we're not happy with you (ii) but we're not so stupid as to blindly vote someone else into parliament just to spite you. That doesn't mean we shouldn't vote for Chiam See Tong. He's nice. But don't take my word for it. Go ask the Potong Pasir residents. The old ones la. i'm sure they'll tell you what they think about the upcoming elections.

But thanks anyway for the $700. It's good to be able to have a free holiday that isn't sponsored by my parents. This saves me more money for buying toys. Ignore that last sentence. Dang.

The Horniest Day ever

Today was the horniest day ever for me. Make it known that on Jan 14 2006, I was at my horniest. I've never been one to favour horns. No special preference. Don't like to use 'em nor like them to be used on me. But today, I've horned people like the most EVER as compared to how much I've ever horned people in my entire 2yrs of driving. Yes. All the horns accumulated in the past few years could not compete with the number of horns I dished out today. I think there was a total of 15 times I horned inconsiderate motorists and pedestrians. Yes. I honked pedestrians too! That's called 'being fair'. I dunno why, but Singaporean drivers are just so fucked up. Especially taxi drivers. Not that I'm an excellent driver mind you. I did lose to a Lexus. I chickened out at 175 whilst he proceeded to whip my ass at 190. Ouch. Male ego was shattered that night. But today. Today I was on form with all the horns. Taxis kept cutting me left right and centre. The worst part? I was in their blind spot. All of them couldn't see me. Bloody hell. Summore they got the cheek to finger me. Ah the fuckers. If it wasn't for the fact that they were earning money to put meat on the table, I'd have tailgated and flashed them until I got to my next destination. But I'm big-hearted. I forgive them. I forgive them for being absolute pricks that don't give a shit about other people on the roads. I forgive them for cutting me and possibly destroying their own taxis without a care. I forgive them for being total assholes and daring to flip me off when I pass them. I forgive them for being bastards that seem to always hold up traffic on the expressways going at 80 when the speed limit's obviously at 90. In this essence, I forgive them for being too careful.

I seem to be bitching alot. But hell. I've not blogged for eons. Isn't it refreshing to see new words here on this page when ya click it? Heh. Till next time~
